WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING
-
"There's so much great texture in these mixes that reveals itself after multiple listens . . . I appreciate that attention to detail, bringing these songs to life in a way that wouldn't be approachable without your contribution. Really great work."
--dan webb // dan webb and the spiders
-
"I just totally love everything, man. It’s all really come together so nicely."
--will daniel // willie d & the hip pockets
-
"Moments come in the song where I say to myself, impulsively, “Oh! He played that wrong.” Then I listen again and I say “Oh! I see what he’s doing there.” On the third listen I’m sure that’s the way it should have been all along."

READY TO MAKE NOISE TOGETHER?
LET’S Get Started

IT'S A SLIDESHOW!! CLICK THE LEFT/RIGHT ARROWS TO SCROLL.

original sketch for dimensions and layout. would later add a dividing wall with sliding door ~4.5ft from the right side.

leveling the build site for gravel foundation.
gravel foundation laid and leveled, electric meter in place.
delivery day!

shed shell in place, power not yet connected.
view from opposite side.
interior as delivered, back wall that will eventually become "drum land".
opposite side interior, bare studs and subfloor, no wiring.
plan for gravel cutout to make room for the block retaining wall.
plan for landing and stairs location.
live to dig!
trench lined up and dug out for base course of wall blocks.
first course of blocks down!
progress.. navigating the corner plus adding stone fill and rebar reinforced with concrete.
wall set, something like 89 blocks total. cap stones will come later.
little somethin' in the cornerstone for good mojo, a nod to some friends who are no longer around
leveled out and boxed in what will become the landing pad for stairs, plus deck posts and base
stair stringers in place, concrete pavers for landing pad. retaining wall cap stones added. stewart's seltzer for endurance.
added deck boards, hand rail, and solar powered motion lights. exterior work done just in time as winter is coming!

back inside, put down first layer of underlayment before eventually adding a second layer of osb subfloor. layers for sound absorbtion.

powerrrrrr! breaker box installed, utility co connected their end to meter box.

outlets, switches, recessed lighting cans, and track lights all wired up.

wiring work on the opposite end of the studio.
since the shell was built with true 2x4s, there was an extra 1/2" of depth in the stud bays, so i added XPS foam board and caulked all gaps.
XPS all around, plus a second layer in the ceiling rafter bays. great stuff spray foam in all gaps.
framing the new dividing wall that will house the sliding door and create the front entryway and storage space.
new dividing wall frame in place.
rockwool insulation going in. the loft platform boards were removed at some point to allow easier access up there for insulation and drywall.
insulation complete! when you need something built and can't afford a contractor, a songwriter is a great backup option.
drywall in progress, and an artist contemplates his choices.
drywall hang complete, mud and sanding mostly done.
complete drywall from the opposite side. monster miter saw lurks beneath the tarp.
sliding door installed to separate entryway and storage from main work space.
doo doo doo lookin' out my front door.
main room primed and painted.
mini split hvac installed. added a second layer of 1/4" plexiglass under the window trim to create an air gap in each window bay.
front room primed and painted. both rooms feature a lighter shade of the wall color on the ceilings, helps the space feel slightly bigger than it is.
got fancy with some lil rosettes on the door trim.
underlayment and carpet added to front room.
main space underlayment and flooring choice. lifeproof vinyl planks.
main space with flooring, quarter round trim, and window trim installed.
1x3 frames for acoustic treatment panels.
close up of panel frames. slats on the back for added support and to add eye hooks for hanging.
mostly completed wall panel. filled with rockwool, wrapped in green batik fabric. additional layer of thin fabric was stapled to the back side to keep insulation fibers from flying away.
one of two hanging frames for ceiling cloud panels. these were twice the depth of the wall panels and used plywood instead of 1x3.
frame for one of three corner bass trap panels. had to get creative with the engineering but pleased with the result.
close up of the base construction idea laid out with scrap pieces. the 2x2 blocking was abandoned later, plywood base/top with 1x3 supports and slats.
corner panels filled with rockwool slices.
corner panels covered with moving blanket scrap before adding exterior fabric wrap.
corner panels with granny fabric, wall panels with leafy green, and ceiling panels in sky blue. also added OSB sheeting to create the loft surface, filled the underside with rockwool, and carpeted the top, so the loft acts as a giant cloud panel over the drums in addition to storage.
ceiling panels suspended, some wall panels up, and corner traps in place. also added the wolf/eagle clock, an essential piece of gear.
desk build, step on. took a top from an old drafting table, cut to size and rounded the edges, then stained. attached to a jarvis standing desk frame.

attaching a sliding tray for my MIDI keyboard, as well as a support brace between the legs and hanging bracket on the backside for the PC tower. when the standing desk is raised or lowered, everything moves together.
found a little drawer unit for desktop storage, attached some small drawers on the underside of that for additional nooks, and added the mounting arms for the two computer monitors.
a good desk build isn't truly complete until you buy a bunch of stuff to put on it. rack gear seen lurking in the shadows nearby, ready to install.
workstation complete.
desktop close-up. highlights include nictopus cage, a mold of my wife's teeth, and a custom leather "it's fine" coaster. yes i fixed the wonky drawer on the right.
front room storage, added shelving for drumheads, my gigging drum set down below, mics, snares, tools, and all manner of what-have-you.

opposite side of the storage space, including some additional shelving, coat rack, mic stand storage, and a fish.
mini fridge full of sparkling water. not pictured, but equally essential, is the nespresso machine on top.

let's get some drums in here. bonus points for the power clash between the drum finish, cheetah rug and floor stripes.

drumkit from the driver's seat. dream cymbals, mapex armory birch kit, mapex tomahawk snare, aquarian heads all around.
seven months, a ton of sore backs and credit card debt, and with a lot of help from my spouse, family, and pals = done!
